Syarikat Radhakrishnan is known for its litigation work in major cases, some of which have attracted media attention. However, it remains a general practice that is devoted to providing quality service over an extensive range of legal work for both individual as well as corporate clients.
It all began in 1983 when Mr Radhakrishnan decided there was a need for legal practice outside Kuala Lumpur and opened up his practice in the then backwoods of Petaling Jaya. It has since grown from strength to strength at both national and international levels. Over the years it has acquired and developed considerable experience in complex criminal and civil litigation as well as commercial work. From a sole proprietorship catering to a limted clientele, it has since blossomed into a partnership, and now consists of a team that provides a wide range of legal services to an ever-expanding clientele of individual and commercial clients, both local and international. Today, we are one of the leading law firms in the country.
:: Our Clients Are Our Testimony:: The firm's areas of practice encompass both the traditional core areas of civil litigation and commercial work as well as new practice areas such as information technology, intellectual property rights, environmental law and biotechnology research. With the tremendous interest shown in biotechnology in recent years, the firm has entered into a loose tie-up with Malaysia's first and only government-approved contract biotechnology research company whereby the firm advises on contract documentation and intellectual property rights. The firm also handles all aspects of contentious work including contract, consumer, building and construction, landlord and tenant, employment and debt recovery litigation. The firm is involved in a whole spectrum of commercial property and conveyancing work including housing development, funding, banking, commercial and residential property transactions and joint ventures. The firm also undertakes counsel work in civil litigation. The firm provides advisory services for statutory bodies and corporations, including those in the plantation, petroleum and gas industries. Among the international clients of the firm is a French-based international chain food caterer. The firm has traditionally been prominent in litigation, some of which have attracted media attention. High profile cases handled by the firm include the impounding of foreign aircrafts at Malaysian airports, one instance of which was widely reported in both the local and foreign media, obtaining Mareva injunction on a international motorsports group, a case which highlighted numerous legal issues which were reported in the law journals; represented an individual in his action against a golf club in what was billed as a case on consumer rights; successfully defended an international company in an environment case; and successfully represented an overseas client in an international arbitration. In a very new and specialised area of practice, the firm has been involved in the recent launch of Malaysia's first contract biotechnology research and development project. The firm also has been involved in advising and reviewing agreements relating to an international biotechnology partnership programme. Very recently, the firm has involved itself in advising Malsysia's first contract biotechnology company on the innovative carbon exchange and sequestration programme which is expected to go into full swing in line with the Kyoto Protocol. While litigation used to be its forte, the firm has since several years ago begun to move into new areas of practice, involving the corporate sectors. To date, the firm has undertaken work on company incorporation and attended to agreements and documentation on merchant banking, financing, project management, joint venture, construction, forest management, share acquisition, website development and hosting, software implementation and a programme on the international transfer of biological and other plant genetic resources for pharmaceutical and agro-chemical products.
The firm aims to offer a fully integrated legal service to all its clients who comprise both individuals and corporate bodies. The firm prides itself on providing personalised service to its clients. The firm considers it important to get to know clients so that they are assured that the person acting for them fully understands their requirements. Building a strong relationship with clients is therefore fundamental to the firm's approach. With the advent of globalisation, the firm aims to become even more competitive by entering into strategic alliances with foreign firms, thus enabling the firm's clients easier access to foreign legal expertise. At this point of time, we are associated with a US law firm in California, and have reciprocal arrangement with a Trademark and Patent specialist law firm in Myanmar and a firm of solicitor in the United Kingdom. The firm also aims to venture overseas and sees countries such as China and India as important emerging markets for legal services.
